An identity is often thought of as a unique distinguisher and defining it is complicated. It is frequently pictured as a combination of attributes (physical features, beliefs, values and so on) or a result of our past experiences. However, this notion has been made even more complex now that a smart, digitalised city seems to be what we are heading towards. People have dissenting opinions on this, especially when questions like whether an AI with a human consciousness has its own identity starts to arise.
What determines who we are? Some scientists claim we are largely controlled by our genes which dictate our species, appearance and maybe even personality traits, while also revealing who and what we are descended from. Others argue that the environment we grow in matters more than our genes since society and the media have a large influence on how we perceive ourselves.
At the end of the day, do we really know what constitutes our identity if there exists so many theories that can be challenged? Can we still call it the core of who we are when we are almost engineered on a daily basis?
Research & Development (R&D) promotes creative investigation in a curated practice, with an emphasis on unveiling the creative process and methodologies through archiving and performance.
Synopsis
Performance is the sole/soul purpose of our being,

Synopsis
Identities are never static. It changes and evolves; It flows and metamorphoses through different perspectives and discourses. Yet for some, we grapple and yearn to find meaning in what cannot be pin down. Through the vignette of 12 works, this curated mini-marathon platform seeks to explore and question personal and evocative issues – all of which to start appreciating our identities differently, inspite of the new normal.

Synopsis
As part of da:ns festival 2021 In Good Company, Artistic Director Ricky Sim presents a brand new work titled Overlap. Overlap discharges the fragmented ‘corps memories’ from one’s past to initiate a new query into the self. This new work explores new causalities of expression and relationship between movement, sound and space.
