Open Call for RawGround 2024/25

RAW Moves is pleased to open our annual call for local and international artists to submit proposals for the next edition of RawGround (RG) 2024/2025.

RawGround is one of our core platforms aim to promulgate a curated mini-showcase that nurtures dialogue through the trajectory of widening our perception of daily life. The short films are conducted by artists and practitioners of diverse disciplines, each reinstating the scope of aesthetics of the everyday.

We will be continuing with the form of the past two editions and looking to work with six selected artists to conceptualise and create two new short film-works per artist, responding to this edition’s theme of “Balancing – The movement of consciousness”. As the concluding theme of RAW Moves’ three-year exploration of “Reconstructing Worlds: A Movement of Curiosity”, we delve into the paradigm of consciousness:

Consciousness is never fixed: our instinctive perceptions and conscious responsiveness always evolve, each one building on the chances and choices we encounter in our lives. Starting from points of confusion and uncertainty, our consciousness can pivot towards innovations of form and function or shift the weight of our personal focus without needing pre-determined processes, defined outputs, or even the need for an ‘end’ goal. By following its integrity and freedom, the movement of our individual and collective consciousness can balance the demands of resilience and promises of refinement.

The Process

Selected artist-collaborators will be offered artist fees from RAW Moves for the conceptualisation and creation of the two film-works~. In the six-to-eight weeks creative process, each artist will be collaborating and supported by our artistic director and resident dramaturg to deliver two films. In addition to financial support, appointed artist-collaborators will be able to develop their portfolio, articulate ideas and enrich their creative processes through engaging diverse perspectives. This cultural exchange opportunity also offers visibility and chances to connect and interact with arts professionals and audiences from around the world.

The Presentation The final vignette of films will be launched at a physical screening session in Singapore* in the first quarter of 2025, which will includes artists’ talks and workshops. The extended events also offers networking opportunities with fellow artist-collaborators and local audiences. Digital access to the films will be provided on www.rawground.sg for two weeks subsequent to the film launch for both local and international audiences.

~The deliverables are two short films of 5 to 10 minute duration each. Films completed prior to the start of this project based on contractual date are not eligible for submission.
*Artists will need to self-fund their trip to Singapore for the launch event.

About RawGround

RawGround (RG) promulgate a curated mini-showcase that nurtures dialogue through the trajectory of widening our perception of daily life. The short films are conducted by artists and practitioners of diverse disciplines, each reinstating the scope of aesthetics of the everyday.

In its inception, RG was intended as a platform for different local creators to actively share conceptual ideas through a collaborative studio showcase. Since then, the platform has evolved with the pandemic to take on a digital film presentation to its current hybrid format and expanded to include both local and international collaborators to share their artistic practice through interpretation of different themes identified by RAW Moves. In the past 4 editions, we have worked with a total of 35 artists from different disciplines including international collaborators from Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, Netherlands, United Kingdom & Canada.
